Are You Stuck in a Job You Hate? Here’s Why That Needs to Change.

Let’s be real: even your dream job will have boring bits.
Admin? Paperwork? Long team meetings that could’ve been emails?
Yeah, we all have them.
But here’s the difference: those tasks might be annoying—but they don’t make you hate your job. That’s an important distinction.
So here’s the real question to ask yourself:
On a scale from 1 to 10—where 1 is “I hate it” and 10 is “I love it”—how do you feel about your current job?
If your score is 5 or below… why are you still doing it?
We get it. There are reasons:
“I’m the only breadwinner.”
“It pays too well to leave.”
“I’m too old/too young/not qualified enough.”
“I can’t find anything else.”
Those are valid concerns. But staying stuck in something that drains you daily? That’s not sustainable. Not for your mind, body, or soul.
So what’s the alternative?
If you can’t leap straight into a job you love, at least move a few notches up the scale. From hate → to tolerate → to maybe even enjoy.
Yes, job hunting can feel soul-crushing.
Yes, rejection stings.
But it’s not personal. It’s numbers.
Jordan Peterson (in Beyond Order) suggests a 50:1 ratio—apply to 50 jobs to get 1 interview. That number isn’t meant to discourage you. It’s meant to set realistic expectations and build resilience. So you can keep going. So you don’t take silence as a sign you’re not good enough.
Your job affects everything. Your mood. Your relationships. Your health. Your joy.
So here’s your reminder:
You deserve better. Your family deserves better. The world needs you doing something you don’t hate.
Start where you are. Apply anyway.
One better choice at a time.
